Ranthambore is a famous national park close to Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan. On the junction of the hill ranges of the Vindhyas and the Aravalis the dense jungle is a lush green region. Once the hunting preserve of the maharajah of Jaipur, Ranthambore is replete in a multitude of flora and fauna.

Every year hundreds and thousands of people travel to Ranthambore to watch the exotic wild birds and animals in their natural habitat. The best time to travel to Ranthambore is from October to May. In the monsoon seasons the national park remains closed since this is the mating season of the wild animals.

How to Reach Ranthambore by Air: The nearest airport is in Jaipur, which is only a four-hour-drive away from Ranthambore. Jaipur is an important domestic airport is linked to the major cities like: Delhi, Mumbai.

How to Reach Ranthambore by Road: The nearest township of Sawai Madhopur is only 12kms away from Ranthambore. One can reach Sawai Madhopur from Delhi, Jaipur or Agra.

How to Reach Ranthambore by Rail: The nearest railhead from Ranthambore is Sawai Madhopur. Many important trains service this stations linking it to cities like: Jaipur, Delhi, Mumbai.

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS IN RANTHAMBORE

Ranthambore National Park is a prime wild life destination in India. Located at the junction of the hill ranges of the Vindhyas and the Aravalis in Rajasthan, the park sprawls over an area of 400sqkms and is named after the huge Ranthambore Fort.

Once a royal hunting ground the region was declared a wild life sanctuary in 1957. Ranthambore is now home to an estimated 300 species of trees, 50 aquatic plants, 12 verities of reptiles (including the Marsh Crocodile and amphibians), 272 types of birds and 30 species of mammals.

Project Tiger was launched in 1973 to protect and increase the population of tiger here. In 1981 it got the status of a National Park. With the variegated population of wild lives, it is a haven for the wild life enthusiasts and photographers.

The biggest of all tourist attractions in Ranthambore is the facility of tiger watching. Although it is always a matter of luck, the park offers better opportunities for tiger spotting than many other parks. Here the tigers are even known to hunt in full human view. This lack of fear about human comes as a boon for the tourists.

SHOPPING IN RANTHAMBORE

Ranthambore is a perfect wildlife destination where people travel in flocks to watch tiger and other birds and animals in the natural setting.

The little village offer limited shopping opportunity in Ranthambore. So very few prefer shopping in Ranthambore.
But if you are keen on shopping in Ranthambore, it is better choose to shop in Jaipur, which is the nearest city.

Shopping in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan turns out to be undoubtedly a delightful experience. The state of Rajasthan is traditionally rich in making various handicrafts. Jaipur offers you great opportunity to shop around these items.

While shopping in Jaipur you may choose to pick up: Tie-and-die textiles, jewelries, woodcrafts, gems and stones.Another option is shopping in Delhi instead of shopping in Ranthambore. Although there is no specialty craft in Delhi, but you would find here an wide variety of crafts of north India and some of south India too.

Both in Delhi and Jaipur, there are lots of shopping joints, which substitute for the lack of shopping centers in Ranthambore. Numerous private shops and government emporia are available in plenty. Shopping from colorful roadside stalls close to the places of interest is also a good option if you are comfortable with little bit of bargaining.

So we suggest plan to shop in Delhi or Jaipur instead of shopping in Ranthambore.

Ranthambhore National Park in Rajasthan is a haven for tigers and over 250 species of birds and more than 10 kinds of reptiles. With six artificial lakes and a number of streams it becomes a delight for wildlife enthusiasts. Besides tigers you can find Sambars, Chitals, Nilgais, Gazzelles and Wild Boars in this wildlife park. Flora in Ranthambore National Park: The landscape is dotted with ancient Banyan Trees, Dhok & Pipal trees, clusters of mango trees and crisscrossed with evergreen belts. The terrain is made up of massive rock formations, steep scarps, perennial lakes and streams and forest suddenly opening up into large areas of Savannah. The terrain of Ranthambore Wildlife Sanctuary fluctuates between impregnable forests and open bush land. The forest is the typically dry deciduous type, with Dhok, being the most prominent tree.

Major Wildlife Attractions: Ranthambore National Park has a rich diversity of fauna and flora, which includes 300 trees, 50 aquatic plants, 272 birds, and 12 reptiles. For the wildlife savvy, Ranthambore wildlife sanctuary today offers an intense diversity of flora and fauna. Tigers, the park's pride makes it one of the best places in the country to observe them. Apart from that a large numbers of Sambar, Chital, Nilgai, Gazzelle, Boars, Mongoose, Indian Hare, Monitor Lizards and a large number of birds.

Other Attractions in Ranthambore: One of the main attractions of Ranthambore is the Ranthambore Fort and Jogi Mahal, covering an area of 392-sq-kms. The fort dates back to the 10th century and is probably the oldest existing fort in Rajasthan and was a vital citadel for control of Central India and particularly the Malwa plateau.

One of the most popular parks with tiger sightings at its best, a photographers’ dream come true, dotted with lakes and ponds around which the wildlife abounds, predators and prey enact their day to day drama.

 

The 410 sq.kms. park is covered with belts of dry deciduous forests with ancient banyans and pipal trees which open into large areas of grassy meadows.

 

The three major lakes, Rajbaugh, Milak talao and Padam talao attract a variety of migratory birds. The lakes are covered with pink lotuses on which the sambar deer often feed. The grassy edges are frequentd by chitals, wild boars and other ongulates. The Marsh crocodiles bask on the shores, the Tigers are often on the prowl at the peripheries. The variety of birds is vast and have their own say, screeching parakeets, whistling magpies, and dancing peacocks abound in the park.

 

The park is studded with small covered pavilions,ancient summer palaces and crumbling guard posts that bear mute testimony of Rajput Kingdomsand battles long forgotten. Imposingly looming above the Nationalpark is the Ranthambhore Fort, in itself a major tourist attraction.

Wlidlife Species:Tiger, Leopard, sloth beer, Marsh Crocodile, sambar, Chital, Nilgai (blue bull), Wild boar, Chinkara, Jackals, Hyeana, Peafowl, Tree Pies, Parakeets, Robins, Painted storks, Sandpipers, and Plovers. (Total 300 species of birds)
